Southern Party Platform

Abortion:

All human life, created in the image of God, is sacred and begins at the point of conception. Since the paramount aim of law is to preserve human life, all civil governments are obligated to safeguard the rights of the pre-born. Therefore, every federal judicial ruling and law aimed at securing the so-called "right of choice" not only is contrary to the laws of God but to the Constitution of the United States as well.

Congress:

Our Founding Fathers envisioned a Senate appointed by state legislatures as a vital safeguard of state sovereignty. Therefore, repeal the 17th Amendment and return the power of electing U.S. senators to state legislatures. Abolish congressional pensions. Eliminate congressional salaries and return to the "per diem" basis for remunerating lawmakers. Repeal all laws that delegate legislative powers to regulatory agencies and other federal bureaus.

Crime:

An issue best left to state and local governments. Oppose all federal measures aimed at interfering with state executions of convicted criminals. Restrict federal law enforcement policies only to those duties prescribed by the Constitution.

Defense:

Armed neutrality in the tradition of Switzerland. Oppose all attempts, either through treaty or "executive agreements" to force U.S. military personnel to serve under foreign flags.

Education:

Get the federal government out of education -- period. Return public schools to local control where community moral and ethical standards are taught rather than those dictated by educational bureaucrats in Washington. Eliminate predatory levels of taxation so parents will be better prepared to educate their children privately.

Electoral Reform:

Restore true federalism by returning the electoral process to state and local governments -- beyond the reach of faraway federal judges and bureaucrats.

Restrict electoral qualifications to only those prescribed by the Constitution; additional restrictions imposed by courts and bureaucrats not only are unconstitutional but undermine fairness.

The Environment:

Preserve property rights while safeguarding the environment. Emphasize faithful stewardship while ensuring that state and local governments as well as the private sector carry as much as the burden as possible.

Return to the people of the states all federally controlled land used for purposes not specifically delegated by the Constitution.

Foreign Aid:

Foreign aid is not a constitutionally mandated function of government; phase it out immediately

Foreign Policy:

Heed George Washington's warning about entangling alliances: withdraw from NATO and other treaty commitments undermining U.S. sovereignty.

Establish a means whereby all existing treaty obligations are judged on the basis of their constitutionality.

Gun Control:

Oppose regulations - especially firearm registration -- undermining citizens' right to keep and bear arms, safeguarded by the 2nd Amendment.

Health Care:

Oppose all federal attempts to regulate the supply of medical services or to dictate health-care choices to citizens. Support measures to establish more employee-controlled "family coverage" health insurance plans.

Immigration:

Make a more vigorous effort to staunch the flow of illegal immigration.  Support a temporary moratorium on legal immigration except in extenuating circumstances, such as hardship cases.

Money and Banking:

Abolish fiat money; replace Washington control over money and banking with the free market and gold standard. Return to banking privacy: get snooping bureaucrats out of the banking system.

States Rights:

As a common agent employed by the people of the states, the federal government is empowered to carry out only those duties specifically delegated to it by the states. All other powers are reserved to the states and to the people. The Southern Party will work vigorously and tirelessly to restore to the people of the states all rights reserved to them by the Constitution.

Social Security and Medicare:

Work toward eventual privatization of the Social Security program and Medicare.

Taxation:

Work toward repeal of the 16th Amendment. Abolish the IRS. Restore a tax system modeled after the original intent of the Constitution.
